How to get started with an Internet Business: The basics

Following on from last week, QSC

Hi, now in The Quick Start Challenge week two and how hectic everything has been outside of the course. The trick is to get started, and continue with your vision. This week had a different aspect to it, in some ways something you would not necessarily consider at this stage of your business. But, is worth reviewing at regular intervals, see further on.

What has been the challenge this week?

This weeks personal challenge has been getting he details of the service sorted out. Such things as the actual order of service, content and images approved by family members. Whilst completing the day job duties, quick discrete phone calls as necessary.

One problem was the music, identified the piece but it was not a ‘public’ recording – alternative had to be found.

Week 2 of the QSC

Week two turned out to be something different, but never the less fundamental for you in setting up your business. An open question ‘Why are you doing this’ and ‘What do you want out of it’. You need to be able to answer these questions:

  • Why you have started building an online business
  • What you want out of your business
  • What is your dream life
  • What is your monthly income goal to make it happen

Giving serious thought to the answers to these questions will give you the insight and wherewithal to overcome the hurdles in front of you.

Lets have a look at these questions.

What is the dream life?

How would you like to live? Where would you live? What sort of house do you want?

The answer will be determined to a certain extent, by your circumstances. Possibly for a younger person they may be able to move anywhere in the world. They have no current ties and have a lot of freedom of choice.

Whereas for an older person would perhaps have family ties, and would want to stay near to children and grandchildren. Their current house may even be adequate for their needs, and looking perhaps to have a better or more modern car.

Why I have started an online business?

Are you looking for a part time job? Giving up your current job?

That is do you want to supplement your income, or have a business that covers all your costs.

Or want to work from home, having spent a lot of time away from home, and got fed up with all of the travelling etc. One of the commonest reasons for starting their own business is to be your own boss.

What I want out of this business?

This question is answered in part by the above. The ability to live my dream life. But, fundamentally I want to live my life. To have the freedom to travel when and where I want to (working for a company means having to follow rules about having time off etc).

What is the number (monthly income)?

If you just plucked a figure out of the air then you might say 10,000 per month, or 100,000 per year. This figure would have no real meaning to you as there is no basis for it.

Once the above activities have been carried out properly then  the number can be properly calculated. The number then has more significance and a personal meaning.

Having done the research for the above you would now have a good idea of how much you would need to fund this life. Your number is the amount you need to make to live your life.

If you are looking for physical things, then put up some pictures/photos of what you desire near your computer

The Internet Marketing Evolution

Dean then gave us an insight into how Internet Marketing has evolved over the last decade. The reason why affiliate income has decreased and the subsequent drop in income.

Prices have dropped to a tenth of a decade ago.

A tripling in advertising costs.

More about this in a future blog….

3 Effective & Realistic Tactics against Buyer Objections

3 Tips that ban customer buying objections

Just a quick post this time, straight into it.

There are a lot of excuses floating around about why people don’t buy. Maybe you’ve heard some of them: it’s too expensive, it’s not at the top of my “must have” list right now, or even when a deals too good to be true… it’s too good to be true. Customer objections are more easily overcome than you might imagine. Let’s take a look at 3 simple ways to wipe out those objections.

1. It costs too much.

Don’t be fooled! Most of your customers can get the money to buy the product… it’s not a matter of having enough. Let’s face it… what they’re really saying is that they can get a better deal somewhere else, or a deal that gives them a better value for their buck.

Now, don’t give in to the temptation to drop your prices to “rock bottom” just because you hear them say it’s too expensive. There are ways to wipe out these objections without wiping out your profits!

Make it look like a better deal. I mean, take a really good look at your product. How can you increase the perceived value? Maybe you can add a manual, a CD, or a downloadable book full of information about the product. Let them think they are getting more for their buck, and the deal seems a lot sweeter to them.

Think about this… we all expect to pay more when we visit a specialist. Sure, Wal-Mart is great if we’re looking for a generic product, but when we want something from someone who knows what they’re talking about we head for a market “specialist”… and expect to pay a little more as part of the deal.

How can you become a specialist who demands respect, and can get away with slightly higher prices?
•Find niches within your market to address. Hey, if you look closely you’ll discover groups within your market that stand out… business men and women, young mothers, retirees, etc.

•Dig in, do a little research and figure out exactly how your product relates to the special needs of these niche groups.

•Speak to them as someone in the know. Revise your sales materials to address the specific needs of each group. Let them know you understand what they want and need, and watch your profits skyrocket.

Work on becoming an authority within your chosen niche.

2. I Have More Important Things To Get Right Now.

Yeah, buying now doesn’t seem too important until… the deal’s too sweet to pass up, and you have to get it today to get the deal.

What I’m talking about is banning the option of procrastination. Really what your customer is saying is … I have no reason to buy today. Make the deal irresistible, and put a deadline on it. It’ll spur them into making the purchase a priority, NOW.

Count down timers, on the page or in the email are effective here.

3. I’m Skeptical… It’s Too Good To Be True.

Most customers have been burnt by deals that seem too good to be true… they ended up costing more than they were worth. The only way you’ll ever overcome the skepticism is to build a relationship of trust.

Unconditional money back guarantees eliminate the risk of loss, and show the customer that you are truly concerned with their satisfaction.

Let testimonials speak for you. Evidence that you’ve delivered and gained customer satisfaction in the past goes a long way toward banning customer fears.

Be available. Customers feel like everything is okay if they can pick up the phone or send an email and get quick answers to their questions.

It really doesn’t take a lot of rocket science to counter the objections and make good customers. These 3 tips will get you off to a good start.

Into the New Year: Off to a good start?

Well the New Year has started,

but not so good so far.

Hi, and welcome back for the New Year. We have not had a very good start to this year so far. My wife lost her nearest sister just as the work on the kitchen started, the funeral was set for soon after and did not allow us time to make arrangements to get the necessary visa to travel. We were not able to go.

As the building work was completed and I had also finished the decorating I decided time was for a visit to my mum. On the day of travel my sister informed me that my mum had had a fall, her condition was not clear but a GP was supposed to be seeing her. Had to travel quickly. Fortunately she was just bruised, left arm and buttocks, but it had been a heavy fall.

Progress, strategy and utility

It is no good mopping about, have to get the covers off and back into it.

Utility - clear the wraps
Improved kitchen under warps

Remember the Quick Start Challenge (QSC)?

Have to get the sleeves rolled up and back into it.

Remember what it was all about?

That is correct, getting your business up and running. So it is back to basics, get grafting.

Revisit your strategy.

Here are five strategies that have proven themselves effective over and over again.

Strategy #1 – Search Engine Optimisation
One of the best internet marketing strategies to help you market your product or services is search engine optimisation. This marketing strategy focuses on optimising your site to be best found by popular search engines such as Yahoo and Google. Before you can make this strategy effective, it is important that you understand how search engine optimisation works. If you are unfamiliar with this concept, it may be best to hire someone to help you with this type of marketing.

Strategy #2 – Newsletters
Another internet marketing strategy that has proven to be successful is e-newsletter marketing. This type of marketing works by allowing site visitors to sign up for your emails. Then, periodically you can then send out newsletters updating them on your business and making special offers to draw them back to your site. If you choose to use this strategy it is important that you only send these newsletters to those who sign up for them.

Strategy #3 – Pay Per Click Ads
A very popular form of internet marketing is using pay per click ads, which are both easy to use and cost-effective as well. You can sign up with various search engines to have your ad show up as a result for specific keywords and you will only have to pay if people click on your site. Many have found this internet marketing strategy to be one of the most effective strategies available. Limitations on spend can be set initially, scaling up as and when the strategy proves successful.

Strategy #4 – Link Exchanging
A newer internet marketing strategy is link exchanging. This strategy basically works by having various websites exchange links. You can ask another site to provide a link to your site, and in return you will put a link to their site on yours. This works to be mutually beneficial for both businesses, and while it provides more web traffic, it can also help increase rank on search engines as well.

Strategy #5 – Web Banners
Web banners are another type of internet marketing strategy that has been proven to be very effective. This strategy requires purchasing space on other websites such as e-zines or other sites that may be relevant to your business. In the space you purchase your ad will appear and you will benefit from the traffic of that site being interested in what you have to offer.

Conclusion

Each of these internet marketing strategies have proven to be great strategies that brought results for other people. When choosing which of these strategies to use, be sure that you pick strategies that fit the nature of your business. There are many methods of internet marketing, but if you are new to the business, often using the tried and true methods can bring the best results.

The final choice may depend on what budget you have available.
